How does the Walkathon Work and other FAQ's!
Each Student will be given a Sponsor Sheet/Permission Slip at the PACES Kick-off Pep Rally in early April. Their mission will be to obtain as many pledges from family and friends as possible. The sponsor may pledge a certain amount per lap or a fixed amount.
On Sunday, April 25th starting at 11:00 AM, the student accompanied by a parent or guardian, will go to Bishop Shanahan High School Stadium. At Registration, they will turn in their signed (by a parent or guardian) Sponsor Sheet/Permission Slip. In exchange, they will receive a PACES Walkathon T-Shirt and a Lap Card. Starting at Noon, the students will walk as many laps as they can. Every time the student completes the 1/4 mile lap around the track, their Lap Card will be marked. Parents and family members may walk along with the students.
When the student is done walking, he or she will go back to Registration with their Lap Card. The number of laps will be recorded. The student's job for the coming days will be to collect the funds promised from the sponsors. All of the money should be brought to the school by Monday, May 10th, 2010.
Any money collected beforehand may be brought to the Walkathon and turned in at Registration.
FAQ's
Who can participate in this years PACES Walkathon?Any current student or any student that will be joining us for the 2010-2010 school year may participate.
Now that the new school is built, why don’t we have the Walkathon there?
Bishop Shanahan is nearly the perfect facility. The all-weather track is comfortable to walk on and the newly renovated stadium meets all our needs. Also, since most of our students will attend Bishop Shanahan after graduation, it gives them an opportunity to get familiar with their future surroundings.
What will the proceeds from the Walkathon buy?
Since the school opened in January 2007, the operating expenses have been much higher than anticipated. Until the enrollment significantly increases the proceeds of the Walkathon will be used to pay some of the day-to-day expenses.
Can I drop off my children and pick them up after the Walkathon is over?
Each student needs to be accompanied by a parent or guardian during the entire time at Bishop Shanahan.
If students are not able to attend the actual Walkathon, can they still contribute?
Any student who turns in a Sponsor Sheet with donations will compete for individual and class prizes. He or she will also receive an official this years PACES Walkathon t-shirt (while supplies last).
Why is it named "PACES" Walkathon?
PACES is an acronym for Pope John Paul II-Annual-Catholic-Elementary School.
What happens if it rains?
We will make every effort to hold the Walkathon rain or shine. Of course if the weather is too severe or dangerous the walking part of the event will be canceled. Funds will still be collected and prizes will be awarded.
Do sponsors pledge a certain amount per lap or can they contribute a fixed amount?
Sponsors may pledge to contribute an amount per lap walked or they may simply contribute a fixed amount.
What other activities will be going on during the Walkathon?
The children can participate in a variety of games and crafts. Great food and live music will also be on hand. Parents may walk with their children. Fantastic prizes will be given to the students every 4 laps. There will be lots to do for the whole family to enjoy.
